The Dubai based national carrier, Emirates Airlines, is all set to distribute Coronavirus vaccines, as the United States of America (USA) and the United Kingdom, have taken the lead in granting approval to two vaccines for use.
This disclosure to help, especially developing countries to receive COVID-19 vaccines, when it is finally available to be distributed to countries, was made known by the Senior Vice President, commercial operations, Africa of the Emirates Airline, Mr Badr Abbas, at the Dubai headquarters of the airline.
Answering questions on the operations of the airline and how it has helped to mitigate the impact of coronavirus on its network destinations, Mr Abbas said "Emirate airlines has enough cargo flights to help distribute potential COVID-19 vaccines"
According to him, the national carrier has built enough specialized freezers for onward distribution to various destinations.
COVID-19 vaccine needs to be stored at minus 70 Celsius. Health care providers will need to store it either in dry ice for shorter stints or in specialized freezers. It must be kept colder than the Antarctica
Mr Abbas, was optimistic an Emirates airline is100 percent ready to transport the vaccines to any part of the world.
The carrier since March 2020, when countries were forced to close their borders for commercial flights to curtail the spread of the coronavirus, Mr Abbas said "Emirates has served 130 dedicated cargo destinations, transporting essential services, such as food, medicines and most importantly Personal Protective Equipment."
Emirates Airline, understands the impact Covid-19, has had on economies, which is why the carrier is willing and ready to help save mankind and bring back economies to life by helping to get vaccines to the people who need it.
Mr Abbas said "Emirates airline, has invested so much money to build enough storage facilities, like freezers at major airports and in their cargo plans to ensure that, the vaccines are stored at the right temperature both on the ground and in the air, when transporting".
On what the carrier is doing to safeguard the health and safety of passengers onboard Emirates Airline, he, explained that "Flight crew wear Personal Protective Equipment, including coats, gloves, face masks, etc. the entire duration of the flight".
With regard to passengers, the Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations, Africa, said that "Passengers are always reminded at regular intervals by the cabin crew to wear face masks all the time, in addition passengers are provided with Travel hygiene Kit, which includes face mask, gloves, hand sanitizer, and hand sanitizing anti-bacterial wipes'.
