Needed: Common Sense In NPP

In the 2020 general elections In the 2020 general elections

The approval rating and the chances of the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama, in the 2020 general elections, rose a notch, following the announcement of Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, as his running mate a fortnight ago.

The announcement has caused so much anxiety in the New Patriotic Party, as party leaders are falling over each other to discredit the appointment.

First to throw shades at the woman was the NPP's Director of Communication and Member of Parliament of Adenta, Yaw Buaben Asamoah.

In a hurriedly organized press conference, Buaben Asamoah, claimed that former president Mahama, "does not take Ghanaians seriously" for his choice of running mate.

Yaw Buaben Asamoah's vitriolic attack was to be followed by that of the Ashanti regional chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Bosiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

In a video and audio recording that went viral, the acerbic tongue Chairman Wontumi, who cannot be described, because he is without characteristics, but comes close to being called a clown, also in a similar fashion, said "Just look at her face…take many pictures of her. When you take many pictures of her and examine her thoroughly from hair to toe, you examine what she wears on her body and her hairdo, you will realize that the lady herself is disappointed in herself, the family and Ghanaians and the women as well. Just examine her well".

In another development, the majority leader in parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, who should know better by virtue of his privilege position, also joined the fray by wondering whether the former Education Minister can hold the mantle as president should the position become vacant through death after winning the election with Mahama.

These are just few out of a series of insults directed at Prof. Opoku Agyeamang by leading members of the NPP, who have total disregard for women.

Well-meaning Ghanaians from all walks of life, have unanimously agreed that her appointment was apt.

As a newspaper, we are persuaded to toe the same line of reasoning that Prof. Opoku Agyemang is as an asset, not only to the NDC but the country.

We further call on all Ghanaians to condemn the vitriolic attacks by members of the NPP, who always share the believe that, they are the best thing to ever happen to this country.

Only men without values will launch unwarranted attack on a woman, who has been called to serve her country.
