The Toll Booth On The Dodowa Road Is An Injustice To The People

Over the years, successive Ghanaian governments have either in the State of the Nations Address or Budget Statements mentioned some roads that are to be constructed in the course of the financial year.

Some roads, for example the dodo-Pepesu road, have found space in almost all the budget t statements and SONA's until president John Dramani Mahama, constructed hat road, bringing to an end, years of anguish and anticipation for the people.

The Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta in 2017, captured the Adenta Dodowa road as one of the roads to benefit from the Sinohydro projects, which is Fourteen (14) kilometers. Lot 5 of the ten Lot projects Chinese Synohdro deal said, "Dualisation of the Adenta-Dodowa Road. Fourteen (14) kilometres of the Adenta-Dodowa Road will be dualised so as to reduce congestion, improve road safety, and reduce travel times on the corridor". Since the announcement in 2017 and subsequently in 2019, when the vice-president, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, met with the Chinese delegation at the Jubilee House, led by the Vice-Premier of the State Council of China, Sun Chunlan, who is on a three-day official visit to Ghana. The vice-president at the meeting disclosed that the first tranche of Chinese development loan, known as the Sinohydro deal, has been released. According to him, "I want to thank you and the government of China on our Sinohydro facility. I'm happy that Sinosure (China Export & Credit Insurance Corporation) has approved the first lot of the Phase One. We are happy with the progress". The road, has been captured again in this year's budget as one of the roads to be dualise, and is linked to the Synohydro deal. This newspaper is appalled by the state of affairs, as the road, is one of the roads which have been tolled and is generating revenue for the country every day of the week. As a country, we could dualise the road without having to go borrow money or mortgage any national asset, as we have done with our Bauxite. The 50pesewas and one cedis that motorists pay at the toll booth, has not been put to improve the road, 20meters before and after the toll booth and they are visible pot holes that make driving on the road difficult. At least they should constantly take care of about a kilometer of the road before and after the tollbooth to send a strong signal of the use of the money.
