“We Are Good Protectors Of The Public Purse”; Does Akufo-Addo Listen To Himself

President Akufo-Addo President Akufo-Addo

For those familiar with the antics of president Akufo-Addo, they were not surprised, when on March 9, while delivering the State of the Nation Address, he added another lexicon to the political discourse of the country.

According to the president, "We are good protectors of the public purse". This statement by the president did not come as a surprise to us, as he is fond of making empty statements which are far from reality.

Since the return of multi-party democratic governance in 1992, no president has superintended over corruption as president Akufo-Addo.

Those who have put themselves up to help in the fight against have become the target of corrupt officials, who have close ties with the president.

The number of corruption scandals since 2017, supersedes all his predecessors, even since the days of the first president and founder of the country, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

Corruption is synonymous with this administration and it is an insult on our collective conscience as the president, keeps making a mockery of our value systems.

The former Auditor-General, Daniel Domelevo , was hounded out of office not because of incompetence, but rather the opposite, his commitment to fight corruption is why they ganged up, using a shame called Dua Agyeman, to kick him out citing age and nationality.

The first Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, was frustrated to resign, because he had spooks put on his way to prevent him from functioning properly, the straw that broke the camel's back was when he indicted Ken Ofori-Atta, in the Agyapa Corruption Risk Assessment report.

Almost all his ministers designate, when they appeared at the Appointment Committee for vetting feign innocence of decisions that were taken right under their nose.

The disease 'I am not aware' and 'I will find out' affected virtually every nominee, who was continuing in the same portfolio.

How do you protect the public purse when they is no transparency in your government and every minister is running away from responsibility.

In this whole scenario, what this newspaper has not been able to decipher is the ease at which the president is always far away from reality, as though he governing a country on another planet.
