It was a nostalgic moment for Ghanaians, as though Ghana had gained its second Independence in December 2016, when Nana Addo Dankwa Ajufo-Addo, was declared winner of the presidential election.
He promised Ghanaians heaven on earth, he made pledges he knew in his heart of heart, he was not capable of keeping. One example that will always suffice is, he was not going to run a government of family and friends.
Candidate Akufo-Addo, also campaigned on the mantra of fight corruption, but time has vindicated those who did not believe in all that he was saying.
Presently, one thing that cannot be lost on anyone in this country, is the demonstration of ignorance on how to govern.
Democracy is supposed to bring a certain desire to the people, it is the reason why it is called government of the people,
The dynamics of democracy is to bring a specific ideal into practice - the ideal of a government by and for the people A democratic government is therefore saddled with the responsibility to deliver good quality of life to the people; not just to the people who voted it, but also to those who did not vote it.
In a democracy therefore government is accountable to all citizens. The ancient Athenians who invented democracy learned this lesson when they took practical steps to make government involve all citizens and serve the general interest.
President Akufo-Addo, started with calls on Ghanaians to be citizens and not spectators, he reechoed his call to fight corruption and be the president for us all.
The president's anti-corruption profile has faded long time ago, the bogeyman mystique that constitutes the essence of his public persona is increasingly being revealed as an absent and abstract construct. Surprisingly, it is the masquerade himself who has been demystifying the man behind the mask.
Akufo-Addo, has consistently tried to rewrite reality after the fact, he is big on naming and shaming those accused of corruption. Feeding Ghanaians corruption porn is his preeminent definition of 'fight against corruption.'
Yet, he shows an incongruous disinclination to expose his own accused appointees for their alleged involvement in corruption.
The country was united when he took the oath of office in 2017, he promised to be a president for all, a promise that didn't last even one month. Today, Ghana is more divided than it was during the struggle for independence. Some tribes have become endangered species. It is common today for one to be guilty of a crime by virtue of his tribe.
Ghana, today is like a country without government. It is said that, the worse form of democracy, is better than the best form of dictatorship, can never be true under this government. Freedom of people have been curtailed, people fear for their life and safety than they were under military rule.
Political party vigilante groups are running wild and no one cares to stop them. Anytime such marauding groups have their day, it is because they have the blessing of the leader. Even places where the devil fears to tread, they desecrated. The hallowed grounds of our courts, which serve as the last resort and a source of hope for the people, have been trampled upon.
Akufo-Addo, is that leader, who is only right ones anytime he opens his mouth, apart from his greeting, any other thing that comes from his mouth, is a lie.
He promised to fight corruption; he is now fighting those who fight corruption. He promised not to borrow; he has now borrowed more than all our leaders since independence. He promised not to run a family and friends government, but his government is made up of family members and friends, including baby mamas and girlfriends.
He promised and even put his presidency on the line in the fight against galamsey, the country is now witnessing the worst form of galamsey.
He told Ghanaians to be citizens not spectators, but those who dare to criticize him are met with brute force and shown where power lies.
He promised to run a lean and efficient government, but he saddled the tax payer for four years with over 120 ministers.
He promised to protect the public purse, but the wastage in his government is mindboggling.
He promised since 2008 to introduce free Senior High School, for eight years he run with that campaign, when he finally had the chance in 2017, he has only succeeded in destroying education and by extension the future of the students.
Ghana is in need of that strong and visionary leader. The country is currently on a sick bed and needs a team of physicians to resuscitate it back to live.
Our people have a saying that, the evil that men do lives after them, but with Akufo-Addo, I pay that whatever he does live with him.
Every day, when I go down on my knees to pray, I asked the Almighty Allah, to grant president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, good health and long life, to live to see the mess he is creating.
He should live long enough and be able to look back and tell God and Ghanaians, how sorry he was for turning a blind eye and deaf ears, when his attention was drawn to the abyss he was leading the country into.
As citizens, we have done both our civic and patriotic duties, by drawing the attention of the president that, the country is heading in the wrong direction.
Most Ghanaians have already asked for forgiveness for voting for Akufo-Addo, who has no clue, how selfless a leader ought to be. A man who has spent more than thirty years of his life trying to be president, must be better prepared than we are seeing.
Akufo-Addo, has been nothing but a monumental failure.
