Like Hawa Koomson Like The Rest Of Akufo-Addo’s Nominees-Different Names, The Same Results

Mavis Hawa Koomson, minister designate for Fisheries and Aquaculture Mavis Hawa Koomson, minister designate for Fisheries and Aquaculture

Ghanaians were fed a dose of comedy central, like Thursday, when the minister designate for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Mavis Hawa Koomson, took her turn at the Vetting in the August House.

Until her appearance, Ghanaians have thought they have seen enough of the lies and dishonesty exhibited by those, who appeared before her.

Hawa Koomson, was unfortunately the ugly underlay of what we have left with us as politicians. The good, capable and genuine ones have decided to stay away from the game, which takes no prisoners.

Every society, gets the kind of politicians they deserve. It looks like we cannot give what we do not have and it is becoming increasingly clear at the vetting that, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which was shouting we have the men, is bereft of them.

Ghanaians out of necessity and coupled with lies, voted for the NPP and its flagbearer Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in 2016, ostensibly to correct the mistakes of President John Dramani Mahama.

The administration of president Akufo-Addo, is a living hypocrisy. President AkufoAddo, has created the presidency in his own image.

Everything he has said about his predecessor, he has outdone him more than ten times.

The cardinal principle in serving in public office is accountability. You serve at the pleasure of the people, and so when called upon to account for your stewardship, you do not feign ignorance.

What is unfolding at the Appointments Committee of parliament before our very eyes, is an experience you will expect in 1993, when we first ushered in the Fourth Republican dispensation. I am suggesting so, because the country had just returned to Constitutional rule and anything that was done prior, was what you can term 'obeying orders' or 'orders from above'.

In the game of democracy, there are rules, every action or decision taken must be govern by the law. You cannot enter the country into any contractual agreement without following the law.

But we have seen ministers who superintended over ministries for four years, tell the whole country that, they were not aware of events of significant magnitude that took place under their watch.

The problem with this country is not only are our leaders dumb, but the people they lead are even dumber. What is this crass statement like ' I am not aware' , when millions of dollars of tax payers money is/has gone under the drain.

The fight against corruption is almost dead due to lack of support, tribalism, partisanship, and an inept, as well as sometimes unethical judicial system that makes no sense.

We have watched on television and listed on radio, as the president's nominees made a mockery of the positions they were given, for four years they were entrusted with our resources and they claim not to know how they utilized it.

They have concluded that they are dumb and we are dumber, regardless of what we think or say, they will still get the nod to continue the dumbness that had characterize the four years they were in office.

They all sat in the sacred chair and told us they were not aware, because they know they could get away with anything regardless. That's about the only way one could explain their illogical and immoral behaviors given the decay that the country is facing today.

Politicians in Ghana and their followers are so dumb and arrogant they no longer understand that they are tied to the faith and future of that country.

They the lack morals and foresight to understand that, whatever the image of Ghana is outside this country such is their image.

We those who supposed to tell them that, we cannot countenance incompetence and corruption, also bury our heads in the sand, talk politics all day, and pray to God all night that, he should intervene in our affairs, yet when we wake we are on radio and on social media, defending their graft.

We lack so much self-esteem that we are content if anyone from our party gets appointed, we defend them and gloat as if .they were our blood relatives.

Reinhold once said, "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, and the courage to change the things that I can."

We have watched minister upon minster go and disgrace themselves. From the health minister designate, Kwaku Agyeman Manu, to minister of foreign affairs designate, Shirley Ayorko Botwey, these two ministers who are continuing in the portfolio, claim they did not know about the contract awarded Frontier Healthcare Services, to administer Covid-19 test at the Kotoka International Airport.

A contract that was awarded in June, with so much controversy since, no right-thinking minister could have gone before the Appointments Committee and say, they had no clue how the contract came into being.

Dominic Ntiwul, minister of defence designate, who also appeared before the Committee and was asked about the invasion of the military in parliament, he also said he did not know who gave the order.

The minister of National Security designate, Kan Dapaah, also took his turn and was asked about it, he also claimed he did not know. So these two people sit on top of our security architecture and don't know what is happening, makes one ask, whether we are safe.

Hawa Koomson, was just the cherry on top of what we have been fed already. To say she was a disaster is understatement, she was simply a square peg in a round hole.

No serious country, with the abundance of human resources, will hand over a strategic ministry, like Fisheries and Aquaculture, a sector which provides employment to a lot of our people to someone, who has clearly exhibited she is not right for the job.

I am tempted to conclude that, our president is battling some demons and we need to pray for him.
