Nana Bediatuo Asante: The Mascot And Akufo-Addo’s Experiment With Mediocrity

Nana Asante Bediatuo Nana Asante Bediatuo

Nana Asante Bediatuo, the Executive Secretary to the president, has developed a penchant and a flair of some sort for sabotaging Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Ghanaians in general.

The kooky man with a fetish for hat, fancy suit and cigar, is the mascot of President Akufo-Addo's administration.

He is the poster child of the shambolic game of ineptness that patriotism urges us to hyperbolize as a 'government'.

In the Akufo-Addo presidency, we are witnessing what might potentially be the worst regime in the history of the Fourth Republic. It is clear that we have in power today, an incompetent president who is equally spineless!

If my assessment sounds so harsh and pessimistic, it has come precisely from the mixed signals that the regime issues on practically every decision.

President Akufo-Addo, is so annoyingly inconsistent and indecisive, that I personally think that after four years in power, we may conclude that the man just does not fit the frame of the president of Ghana.

A hallmark of the spineless regime is the wont to taking decisions and after coming under the pressure of its corrupt sponsors, it ends up retreating.

The examples of this are legion, but the most recent one was the decision taken to cut down the budget estimates for the judiciary and legislature.

The above misstep was revealed by the Majority Leader and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei- Mensa- Bonsu, after the Speaker of the House, Alban Sumana Bagbin, warned he would block the approval of the 2021 budget and economic policy of the government, if the Executive maintains its decision.

Nana Asante Bediatuo, had written a letter to Parliament, suggesting that the budget for the Legislature will be slashed by ¢119 million whilst that of the Judiciary will go down by ¢77 million.

In 2018, precisely around August, Nana Asante Bediatuo wrote a letter to Parliament, informing the MPs President Akufo-Addo has given an executive approval to the novated AMERI power deal.

The letter which led to the dismisaal of then Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko, was to be denied by the presidency, claiming the president was misled.

Really, if President Akufo-Addo was capable of outrage or embarrassment, he would have fired Nana Bediatuo Asante, even before the end of his first term in office.

Bediatuo, has demonstrated time and again that he is not only ineffectual on the job but that he is also aggressively toxic to the governance of this country. And the latter is twice as strong a reason to dismiss Bediatuo as the former.

The reappointment of Asante Bediatuo as Executive Secretary to the President highlights Akufo-Addo's avowed commitment to lead Ghana by a new paradigm.

The most basic expectation Ghanaians had for president Akufo-Addo, when he went round the country in 2016, crying 'try me too' was to form a government peopled by Ghana's brightest talents.

Ghanaians looked forward to an ensemble of smart picks. The most competent people in the most fitting positions, but not even the slogan, 'we have the men' could save him from appointing mediocre people, who are members of his family, as well as friends.

Nana Asante Bediatuo is one of president Akufo-Addo's family members he mismatched with an important position.

Bediatuo, has made a point of proving to all and sundry that he is the most unsuitable person ever to be appointed Executive Secretary to the president. Yet Akufo-Addo, continues to let him cast in bold relief the poverty of the president's sense of choice.

Nana Akufo-Addo, continues to permit Bediatuo define down ineptitude. The president continues to let his administration look more like an exercise in the cultivation of mediocrity.

In a country as rich in human talent as Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, was spoiled for choice. Why he elected to gravitate towards average calibre is inexplicable.

And the surprise is that he is at peace retaining them to the detriment of his increasingly diminishing presidency.

He is content to accommodate the goofy Bediatuos of this world in his cabinet when the country boasts infinitely better brainpower at home and abroad.

Bediatuo, deserves no place in national leadership. He is an unmitigated nuisance as the Executive Secretary to the president.

His inability to handle the simplest tasks of his current post is a sure sign that he would be as much a failure if he was given a ministerial appointment. He and his incompetent likes must give way for Ghana's best..

Nana Akufo-Addo, resembles one on heavy sedation and is therefore sleepwalking through governance. The man is hostage to a set of vicious power mongers and is not a free agent. But he enjoys the trappings of power, even when it does not translate into benefit for the Ghanaian people.

We were told, he meant well for Ghana and Ghanaians must try him, indeed we have and I can say without fear of contradiction that, he is one of the biggest mistake, Ghanaians have ever made.

Our elders have a saying that, if you do not know death, watch sleep. It is obvious from the onset that the Akufo-Addo, was only interested in being president, he did not have a clue as to what it takes to be a leader.

A weak and ineffectual leader is one, who does not se anything wrong with his appointees, for as long as you serve in his government, you can do no wrong. It is only corruption, when it involves his opponents, but his anointed must not be touched.

How many times, must Bediatuo, usurp his powers, before he will take action against him, I pray that, he won't enter the country in a transaction that will cost us money, we cannot pay, because he feels, he is on the same level with the president.
