The former Central regional chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) must be suffering from delusion or dementia or both by insinuating thatthe NDC in the lead up to the 2018 general election, lied that then sitting President, John Agyekum Kufuor, collected $5 million as a bribe.
Speaking on Peace FM few days ago, Allotey Jacobs had this to say, "I would want to seek audience with President Kufuor and apologize to him. I owe him an apology. Every issue has its trigger and there is nothing that is hidden under the sun so don't say I'm saying this because I'm no longer with the NDC. You can't light a lamp and hid it, it will show. The type of politics we are doing in this country is destroying people. We make all false allegations against people and there is payback".
What was Allotey Jacobs, thinking, or should I say, drinking, when he made those pronouncements, which not only indict the NDC, but his friend, and brother, late president John Evans Atta Mills.
Thereis an honorable way to defend someone without exposing the innermost secrets you have when you were once with another person. Politics is a game of conviction, or so it must, but the tendency where people are in a hurry to betray their conscience for a pot of porridge is disturbing.
We all have secrets, some things we have done when we were part of a group or with friends, those secrets we will take to our graves. Politicians have the tendency to cut corners;it is a game where lies, machinations, laced with truth is played.
It is a game, where the end justifies the means, so I cannot for the life of me, fathom why a one-time regional chairman of a political party, who is old enough to be considered an elder, and by virtue of his closeness to some people, and was privy to sensitive information, will say such a thing, for the simple reason that he was provoked.
Though it is universally known that 'with privilege comes responsibility,' Allotey Jacobs embraced privilege without responsibility.
There are elders and there are elders. Allotey Jacobs is not an elder. A real elder does not pursue a rat while his house is on fire. You do not bring the whole house down, because some overzealous young men and women, who need your advice and counsel, decide to insult or mock you.
I have carefully followed the utterances of Allotey Jacobs, especially on Peace FM, at least since the NDC lost the 2016 general elections, as a representative of the party, he is expected not to only speak the position of the party, but defend it, but unfortunately he sounds like a man having a national conference with the voices in his head.
He crack jokes, make fun of serious national issues and when he is to rise to the occasion, he crumbles like a pack of cards. Of course, it was an agenda which fits into the narrative of those who had him there and so they kept inviting him, even when the NDC proposed to replace him. Peace FM took an entrenched position, forcing the party to boycott the station.
Even the loud mouth and acerbic tongue, Kennedy Agyapong, is measured when it comes to how the New Patriotic Party (NPP) won both the 2016 and 2020 general elections.
Allotey Jacobs is fast establishing himself as that man in the community, whose presence sends everyone into the silent mode, he is the type described as, even if you are easing yourself and he is coming, you sit on your faeces.
Allotey Jacobs, has children and grandchildren, how will they fit into any political party, taking into consideration, what he is doing today.
If only, he hears what those he has pitched camp with, are saying about him, behind his back, he will rush to church and seek for forgiveness for betraying his family.
Politicians in Ghana talk, when you think you are doing them a favor, to them you are just a pawn in the game and will be discarded immediately the battle is won.
Allotey Jocobs political naivety will not only be his own undoing but that of his generation.
History is there to guide all of us, anybody, at least in our Fourth republican dispensation, who has abandoned his or her political party to join another, goes into political oblivion or at least that mistake, will be the last that is heard of that name.
There are litanies of such people, whose political careers died the day, they chose to cross carpet or betrayed their comrades.
Late President John Evans Atta Mills, will be turning in his grave, owing to the betrayal of one of his trusted lieutenants, Allotey Jacobs, had access to the inner chambers of president Mills, he was a brother and a friend, and friends and brothers, don't do what Allotey Jacobs has done.
Allotey Jacobs, is among the people who have the school of thought that the progress and success of another person takes everything away from them.
Considering the numerous challenges facing Ghana, one ought to have thought that, Mr Jacobs, will spend his time and energy to point it out to the government, but instead his has join their ranks to pillage this country.
Political sycophants like Allotey are now distracting people's attention from Akufo-Addo-Bawumia's failures by focusing on what happened as far back as 2008.
It is not when we are in the ground that we are dead; we are dead when we betray our conscience and the people we claim we once loved.
Allotey Jacobs, calls himself an elder , yet he keeps waxing in sycophancy and betrayal.
The memory of Prof. John Evans Mills, deserves better, this is a man, who put his life to the service of our dear nation, if we cannot be grateful for his selflessness, we should not desecrate his memory.
Allotey Jacobs, must know better, going to the extent of apologizing to former president John Agyekum Kufuor, is not only despicable but an act that portrays him as a man with no principle.
