Three more regions, have benefitted from government sponsored markets disinfection/fumigation exercise after Greater Accra, Ashanti, Eastern and Western North.

The exercise, which is under the auspices of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, saw the Bono, Ahafo and Bono East Regions, disinfected simultaneously.

It is the second time, the Ministry is embarking on this exercise since the COVID-19 pandemic was first recorded in Ghana in March this year.

While in the first phase, only markets were disinfected, this time, lorry parks, toilets facilities and some selected places of interest, have been included.

In the Bono East for instance, at about 6am yesterday Thursday 23, July 2020, when journalists arrived at the capital Techiman, the popular market was closed in readiness for the exercise, though it was market day.

Others in the region, including the Nkoranza, Tuobodam and 45 others were all disinfected and fumigated simultaneously.

The Bono East Regional Minister, Kofi Amoakohene, who launched the exercise said the region was set after all stakeholders were informed of the exercise which lasted few hours.

He commended President Akufo-Addo and the Ministry for their commitment to contain Coronavirus.

The exercise which has been applauded by many, including traders, he said would be adopted to periodically disinfect the various markets and parks for safe and conducive environment.

A Regional cleanup exercise which was supposed to have been embarked upon by both Zoomlion and the Assemblies, was rescheduled to Saturday.

He apologized to the traders for the inconveniences the programme may have caused them.

Bono East Regional Manager for Zoomlion, Francis Atayure Abirigo, said the exercise was aimed at targeting both viruses and bacteria. He said Zoomlion was ready and equal to the task, saying the exercise will be conducted as agreed upon.

Though Zoomlion was the sole company that won the contract, it has subcontracted part of it to other companies to hasten the process.

While big machines and sprayers were deployed to the field, the company, also contracted drone companies who also disinfected alongside Zoomlion.
