Chiefs Petition IGP Over Activities Chiefs Petition IGP Over Activities

The chief and elders of Adigon Divisional Council under the Tema Traditional Council, have accused the Greater Accra Regional Director of Police Operations, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kwesi Ofori, of police and landguards brutalities, leading to apprehension among inhabitants of the area.

In a petition to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) James Oppong-Boanuh, one Nii Tetteh Atenya II, has called for an immediate investigation into the activities of the police chief and other named land guards.

It is the second petition sent to the IGP by the chief and elders of Adigon Divisional Council. The first one did not see any action.

Indeed, there are reports that some of the police officers involved in the act, have either been offered houses or lands as bribes by some estate developers to terrorize the people into subjugation.

It is unclear, if ACP Ofori, a former Director of Police Public Relations, is one of the officers offered these corruption-inducing packages.

But the traditional leader, insists that the inhabitants have over some time now, been having difficulties going about their daily legitimate businesses because of threats and brutalities by people hereferred to as "criminal elements" aided by the police.

Nii Tetteh Atenya II, said the activities of ACP Kwesi Ofori and the land guards, have rendered them hapless and asked that the whip be cracked on the police officer and his collaborators to bring sanity to the disturbed community.

The chief, said recent activities by some armed Police officers, said to be operating from the Greater Accra Regional Command under the supervision of ACP Kwesi Ofori, if not curtailed would degenerate into something deadlier.

ACP Kwesi Ofori, whose unseen hands have been uncovered, is terrorizing the people with express support from one Abladu Tetteh Kwao, leaving them in constant fear.

The traditional leader said as recent as Friday June 19, 2020, at about 1:00pm, armed Police officers accompanied by two known land guards, Oppong aka Nana Oppong and Adu King, "Invaded the village again, terrorizing and shooting into the air, driving inhabitants away from their land and causing them to flee for their lives".

Nii Tetteh Atenya II's petition said "these armed Police officers from the Greater Accra Regional Command were purportedly under the direction of ACP Kwesi Fori, who is allegedly in cahoots with one individual called Abladu Tetteh Kwao".

It came after the two notorious land guards Oppong aka Nana Oppong and Adu King, on Sunday June 14. 2020, visited similar mayhem on the people aided by some unscrupulous persons wearing Police uniforms purporting to be coming from the Kaketo Police Station in Ashaiman.

Nii Tetteh Atenga II, said though they have their suspicion, they do not want to believe that the Greater Accra Regional commander and his collaborators are scheming and visiting mayhem on the people simply because they want to take from them, their legitimately acquired lands.

He lamented that Adigon was fast becoming a very dangerous area adding, inhabitants are unable to go about their daily activities because of these heavily armed individuals.

The June 22, 2020 petition, also called for the re-arrest of Bright Oppong and Adu King, who the chief indicated were in the past arrested for similar activities but were left off the hook by the Police.

The two and their gang of land guardsaccording to the petition, use very sophisticated weapons including guns and grenades to visit unprovoked mayhem on inhabitants especially those who are farming and building on land they legitimately acquired.

"These land guards notably Bright Oppong and Adu King, were arrested by the Police sometime back upon complaints by me and the elders of the village. They have subsequently been released and have returned to the village with more deadly weapons to intimate, terrorize and harm inhabitants of the village", Nii Tetteh Atenya II, had disclosed.

But upon their release, these land guards who operate without fear or favour, continue to threaten farmers and property owners, and laments that, if their criminal activities are not brought under control, the Adigon community will be turned into a war zone soon.

"These criminals called land guards now parade the village threatening legitimate farmers and others on their land. Their terrorist activities, if not brought under immediate control by the Police Service will reduce our village-Adigon into a war zone".

The petition intercepted by The Herald, revealed this is the second time the people of Adigon is writing to the IGP for protection against the criminal activities of Bright and Adu King.

Nii Tetteh Atenya II, appealed to the IGP to use his good office to launch an investigation into the issues raised and take immediate action to protect and safeguard lives and properties in the village "As we have become hapless victims of these thugs".

The petition said, the investigation if launched must be completed and culprits brought to book, adding the people of Adigon wish to convey our faith and belief in your administration to arrest and investigate these armed land guards", he said.
