Sustain International, a not for profit and a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in collaboration with the La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal assembly, on Saturday, November 21, 2020, organized a clean-up exercise to to get rid of filth and clear choked gutters to allow free flow of water in drains.
Members of Sustain International, who were gathered in the morning, started the clean-up exercise around 7am. They disilted gutters around the Melcom to the Flames Pub, as well as the surrounding areas.
The country director for Sustain International, Hanson Gizo, addressing the participants, said the exercise was to help keep the environment clean.
"Let's keep the environment clean and its people healthy", adding "cleanliness they say is next to godliness".
He asked the participants to observe all the Covid-19 safety protocols, so as to guard against the spread.
According to him, as part of the core objectives of Sustain International, environmental protection is key, hence the need for this exercise.
Mr Gizo indicated that, the organization "intends replicating this in many other parts of our country as well".
"As a people, it is very important to keep our surroundings clean. A clean environment is essential for a healthy living", he said.
He added that, "The more you neglect your environment, the more it will be polluted with contaminants and toxins that have a harmful impact on our health'.
He concluded on the note that "Air pollution can cause respiratory diseases and cancer among other problems. Let's help keep our environment clean in order to protect ourselves".
The motto for Sustain Ghana is 'Creating A Global Sustainability Hub.'
