There is an old expression attributed to a nameless individual who is said to have stated that "if you want to hide something from a black person, put it in a book" (or some say, "put it in writing.") This is one of those age-old, long-held racist stereotypes that perpetuates the myth that black people do not like to read (or write). In fact, if you are a black person, you probably have heard some rendition of this expression.
A related stereotype deducible from this vacuous myth is: "if a White person wants to reveal something to a black person, he/she/ they should put it in a book or in writing" - because, as you guess correctly, black people will not find out for the reason that they do not read or it is in writing.
Obviously, these are just mere foolish racist stereotypes, right? Undeniably, black people do read books and discover things put in writing. And, evidently, white people do not make up lies about black people that they put in books believing black people will not discover such falsehoods because they do not like to read things put in writing.
But what if some white people, or say some predominantly white-run institutions, such as the World Health Organization (WHO) of the United Nations or the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of the United States of America, do truly believe in the racist cliché that to hide some of the egregious claims about black people, such as manufacture degrading and dehumanizing lies about the sable people, especially as carriers of some of the most virulent diseases in the world, etc., is to put them in writing (or in a book or a Press Release) because black people will never find out for the simple reason that they do not read.
Sure enough, if black people like to read they would have discovered a recent phenomenal lie (not hidden) communicated primarily by the WHO and backed by the CDC. Against whom? Black people, of course; as those who live in Africa. (So, the entire campaign of "Black Lives Matter" is about black people in Western nations.) The UN health agency lately, about four weeks ago, released an especially crucial document with extremely important pieces of information about a virulent virus and black people in Africa. As you'd expect and if you go by the utterance by the anonymous individual quoted above, because black people do not read they have not discovered this WHO and CDC colossal lie about that certain deadly virus and black people in the "Dark Continent" or "The Heart of Darkness." In fact, if black people have been reading documents - books, press releases, scientific publications, media articles, etc. - they would have noticed in them how the WHO, the CDC, and the Western media have consistently been lying about very dangerous viruses in Africa. But that is another matter for another day.
The focus here is on the recent WHO lie, which is not hard to find out at all - because it is in writing. And here we go:
On August 9, the WHO published a Press Release, captioned "Marburg Virus disease - Guinea", on its website stating that on "6 August 2021, the Ministry of Health Guinea informed WHO of a confirmed case of Marburg virus disease (MVD) in Guéckédou Prefecture, Nzérékoré Region, South-western Guinea. The village where the case resided is near both Sierra Leone and Liberian borders. This is the first known case of Marburg virus disease in Guinea and in West Africa" (emphasis added) .
On August 13, the WHO also published on its platform an August 9 report from its Regional Office in Africa located in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo, entitled "West Africa's first-ever case of Marburg Virus disease confirmed in Guinea" (emphasis added) . This report goes on to clarify: "This is the first time Marburg, a highly infectious disease that causes haemorraghic fever, has been identified in the country, and in West Africa" (emphasis added).
According to the Regional Office report, "Marburg, which is in the same family as the virus that causes Ebola, was detected less than two months after Guinea declared an end to an Ebola outbreak that erupted earlier this year. Samples taken from a now-deceased patient and tested by a field laboratory in Guéckédou as well as Guinea's national haemorraghic fever laboratory turned out positive for the Marburg virus. Further analysis by the Institut Pasteur in Senegal confirmed the result."
Information in the August 9 press statement discloses that MVD, according to the WHO, is "highly virulent, epidemic-prone disease associated with high case fatality rates (CFR 24–90%). In the early course of the disease, clinical diagnosis of MVD is difficult to distinguish from other tropical febrile illnesses, because of the similarities in the clinical symptoms. Differential diagnoses to be excluded include Ebola virus disease, as well as malaria, typhoid fever", etc. Additionally, "MVD is transmitted by direct contact with the blood, bodily fluids and/or tissues of infected persons or wild animals (e.g. monkeys and fruits bats)." As the statement further declares, "Currently, there is no specific therapeutic or drug approved for MVD."
Now, back to the two statements, which both categorically affirm this falsehood: The WHO Press Release of August 9 asserts: "This is the first known case of Marburg virus disease in Guinea and in West Africa", while the Report from the Africa Regional Office proclaims: "West Africa's first-ever case of Marburg Virus disease confirmed in Guinea."
Why are both pronouncements unforgivably false? The answer to this question is simple and indisputable: The first-ever case of the Marburg virus in West Africa was "discovered" in 2017 but announced in 2018 in Sierra Leone, a fact communicated by the Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MoHS) of the Government of Sierra Leone (GoSL), the CDC, and other US institutions and universities and affiliated agencies, such as USAID, PREDICT, the media, etc.
Yes, you read (even if you are a black person) the document correctly: The "Discovery [of the Marburg virus in Sierra Leone] is the first finding of Marburg in West Africa." That was in 2018, like three years ago.
PREDICT, which is one of the US signatories to the "Release", was a program, described as an early warning pandemic system based on "virus hunting", run by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). It was part of USAID's Emerging Pandemic Threats program. On its website, the agency states: "[PREDICT's] Implementing partners are University of California-Davis, EcoHealth Alliance, Metabiota Inc. (formerly Global Viral Forecasting Inc.), Smithsonian Institution, and Wildlife Conservation Society with support from Columbia and Harvard universities. PREDICT focuses on detection and discovery of zoonotic diseases at the wildlife-human interface. Specific activities include: strengthening surveillance and laboratory capacities in order to monitor wildlife and people in contact with wildlife for novel pathogens that may pose a significant public health threat; characterizing human and ecological drivers of disease spillover from animals to people; strengthening and optimizing models for predicting disease emergence and using this information to improve surveillance; and supporting outbreak response when required" .
What USAID fails to disclose, though, is that some of these PREDICT-affiliated institutions and universities were, with the support of the WHO, already conducting covert "experiments" with the world's most highly infectious pathogens in West Africa, precisely in the countries of Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone - also called the Mano River Union, MRU, Countries - "officially" beginning in 2005. For example, unquestionable documented evidence will show that two institutions named by USAID and associated with PREDICT were (and are still) involved in covert "testings" with non-native, haemorraghic viruses in the MRU countries. If only black people read, they would have discovered these undisclosed experiments as well, because they are in writing.
Back, though, to the egregious lies in the MoHS/GoSL and CDC and PREDICT-signed "Press Release." And here are some of the most demonstrably outrageous ones: 1) the "discovery of Marburg virus in fruit-eating bats in Sierra Leone" in (2017)/2018 was the first-ever appearance of this extremely lethal pathogen in the country; 2) "the discovery is the first finding of Marburg in West Africa"; 3) the "finding [of] Marburg in Sierra Leone [in 2017] is not surprising"; 4) "in Sierra Leone, Marburg was found only in bats" (emphasis in original), making the animals the likely reservoir of the virus; 5) "there are no known cases of MVD in people in Sierra Leone at this time [December 2018, when the 'discovery' of the germ in the country and sub-region was announced to the world]" (emphasis added); 6) "the finding of Marburg in Sierra Leone before it has made people sick shows the hard work Sierra Leone is doing to learn about sicknesses in animals before they spread to people, and how best to live with animals safely" (emphasis in original).
The declarations in 5, that "there are no known cases of MVD in people in Sierra Leone at this time" and 6, that "the finding of Marburg in Sierra Leone before it has made people sick", should be underscored for this simple reason: Both indubitably and falsely affirm that: a) there are no known cases of MVD in people in Sierra Leone prior to 2018, and b) that people in Sierra Leone have not, and never, been infected ("made sick") by MVD as of that year. Item 6 makes the additional clarification that this "finding" "shows the hard work Sierra Leone is doing to learn about sicknesses in animals before they spread to people", reaffirming the core false proclamation in the report that the "discovered" Marburg virus in Sierra Leone is only present in animals (bats) and not in people as of 2018.
The second unassailable evidence that uncovers the WHO's false claim that the MVD discovered in Guinea in 2021 is the first-ever case of the Marburg virus in West Africa is this fact: The CDC, in addition to being a signatory to the MoHS/GoSL document, also delivered its own Press Release [4; hereafter "Statement"] on December 20, 2018, the same day the MoHS/GoSL dispatch appeared in Sierra Leone, announcing the "discovery" of the virus in the country and in West Africa. The "Statement" contains all the deliberate falsehoods in the "Release", including the following: 1) "Scientists have discovered live Marburg virus in fruit bats in Sierra Leone - the first time the deadly virus has been found in West Africa"; 2) "There have been no reported cases of people sick with Marburg in Sierra Leone, but the virus's presence in bats means people nearby could be at risk for contracting Marburg virus."
There are, however, additional, detailed intentional lies in the "Statement" that are not present in the "Release", including these two prominent ones: 1) "Testing of samples from four of the five Marburg-positive bats found multiple genetically diverse strains. This suggests that Marburg virus has been present in these Sierra Leone bat colonies for many years"; 2) "To date, there have been 12 known Marburg virus outbreaks with direct links to Africa, with the most recent in Uganda in 2017. The largest and deadliest Marburg virus outbreak occurred in Angola in 2005.
It killed 90 percent of the 252 people who were infected. Two of the four strains identified among the five Marburg-positive bats in Sierra Leone are genetically similar to the strain that caused the outbreak in Angola. It is the first time that scientists have detected these strains in bats."
As will be brought to light in a future piece (which, hopefully, black people will read), these other claims in the "Release" and the "Statement" are riddled with lies that are willful, deliberate and intentional. Well, these mendacities are against black people in Africa. So, who cares? That the GoSL has not corrected the WHO prevarication or informed its neighbor that the Marburg virus had in reality been discovered first in Sierra Leone in (2017)/2018 tells another story in itself (about covert research with deadly pathogens in the MRU countries of which Sierra Leone is the center) that will distract from this essay's focus.
This "discovery" of Marburg virus in Sierra Leone and "for the first time in West Africa" in (2017)/2018 was also reported in mainstream media outlets in the West, specifically those in the US. For example, The Washington Post did so under the title "Deadly Marburg virus found in bats in Sierra Leone" and subtitle "Discovery of close cousin of Ebola raises risk of human outbreak in West Africa", published on December 20, 2018, the same day the "Release" and the "Statement" appeared in Sierra Leone and in the US, respectively . For its part, The New York Times reported it under the rubric "Marburg Virus, Related to Ebola, Is Found in Bats in West Africa", published on December 24, 2018 . Additionally, local newspapers in Sierra Leone announced this "first time" discovery of Marburg virus in the country and in the sub-region.
Unsurprisingly, the Western media has gone on to reproduce (uncritically - it is about Africa, after all) the current WHO and CDC lie that 2021 is the first time the lethal virus has been found in West Africa in Guinea, despite the fact that the same media, as pointed above, reported that the first time the Marburg microbe was discovered in West Africa was in (2017)/2018 in Sierra Leone. This obvious contradiction is not a mistake, or even an induced amnesia by the media. It is just the fact that the Western media, once it disgorges lies and stereotypes about black people (especially those in Africa), will never correct such fakery. To prove this point: just watch what the media's (in)action will be after this exposure.
So the larger questions to be posed here are: How come West Africa, specifically two countries in the MRU sub-region where Western institutions and the WHO had been secretly conducting research with dangerous pathogens for years, is the location for two first-ever cases/discoveries of the same deadly Marburg virus, one in (2017)/2018 and the other in 2021? How is this even scientifically and epidemiologically possible? Well, since the WHO and the CDC really do apparently believe that black people do not read, these institutions are convinced that they can get away with this scientific and epidemiological impossibility - and absurdity.
Now, to this central point, which the WHO and the CDC and their Western echo chambers (cue in the media here) will attempt to use to bamboozle Africans (and black people) about this impossible scenario. They would claim and "explain" that the first first-ever case of the Marburg virus in Sierra Leone and in West Africa was discovered among fruit bats, while the second first-ever case of the pathogen in Guinea and in West Africa was found among a human being. The former, in the sense of the primordial case, they would proclaim, is the first-ever instance of the specimen of the virus in Sierra Leone and in West Africa - but it was in bats. Which confirms this immutable fact they cannot explain away: The original case of Marburg virus in West Africa was established in Sierra Leone in (2017)/2018.
The UN health agency and the US health institution may also attempt to claim and "explain" that the second first-ever case is epidemiological, being the instance where, for the first time ever, the virus was discovered in a human being in Guinea and in West Africa using clinical criteria and laboratory methods/diagnosis to confirm infection. The simple fact this possible, and preposterous, explanation will not discard is that this second first case of the Marburg virus in West Africa in 2021 happened after the first-ever occurrence in (2017)/2018.
No explanations, however contorted and scientifically impossible, by the WHO and the CDC will ever erase the basic lie that the Marburg virus had been discovered for the first time in West Africa in 2017 but announced in 2018 before the two agencies brazenly misinformed the world in August that the earliest time the deadly microbe was discovered in the African sub-region is 2021.
But wait. There is more to these lies. The Marburg virus and the Marburg virus disease were not actually discovered for the first time in West Africa in (2017)/2018 and 2021. Documented evidence exists that will show that MVD had indeed been "discovered" and "diagnosed" among human beings in Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia many years before (2017)/2018.
If only black people read…
