It appears the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency, George Mireku Duker, is leaving no stone unturn to ensure that, the area gets massive transformation with good roads and infrastructure projects in the second term of President Nana Akufo-Addo administration.

In furtherance of this agenda, the MP together with President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the Minister for Roads & Highways, Kwasi Amoako-Atta on Saturday, September 4, 2021, cut sod for the re-construction works to begin on the 66km-Agona-Nkwanta-Tarkwa road network.

The stretch of the road, known as the Inter-Regional Route 6 (IR6) connects the mineral and agricultural rich lands of Tarkwa in the Western Region, Ashanti, Western-North and Central Region all the way to the Takoradi Port.

The Ninety-Five Million Euros (€95 million) project,will be constructed by Portuguese company, Gabriel Couto-Rango Consortium and scheduled to be completed somewhere in August, 2024.

The project involves, a well-constructed 2-lane single carriageway with all necessary auxiliary works, bypasses, laybys, improved drainage systems, traffic lights & controls and streetlights in towns along project stretch among others.

It is believed, to be one of the biggest investments made into the road infrastructure sector for the people of Tarkwa-Nsuaem and its adjoining communities through to Takoradi by the Akufo-Addo government.

The project, when completed will ease the usual vehicular congestion along the road, especially the drudgery within the Tarkwa stretch will be a thing of the past.

The sod-cutting ceremony over the weekend, saw the Tarkwa township came into a standstill with wild jubilation among the residents who were excited about the fact that the Agona-Nkwanta-Tarkwa road network which has been in a bad state is finally about to be fixed.

They described Mr Mireku Duker as a hardworking legislator the area has had, following his sterling performance over the years.

On his part, the MP used the opportunity to thank his constituents for having the believe in him by retaining him to see the historic assignment fulfilled.

He extended his appreciation to the Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah, Municipal Chief Executive for Tarkwa-Nsuaem, Benjamin Kessie, both Regional and Constituency Executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for their unflinching support towards the realization of this historic project.

He acknowledgesthe development-seeking Coalition of Tarkwa-Nsuaem Divisional Chiefs, led by Nana Kwabena Gyan II, the Mahamo Chief, Tufuhene and Gyaasehene of the Apinto Divisional Council for their presence and support.
