A group, calling itself Doba youth association in the Kasena Nankana municipality of the Upper East region, has reached out to the regional house of chiefs to call the chief of Kandiga to order, following his alleged involvement in the recent land dispute between the people of Doba and Kandiga that claimed the life of a 7- year- old man.

In a press released intercepted by this paper, the youth of Doba, described as sad the attitude of the chief of Kandiga, as far as the impasse between the two communities over the true owners of a parcel of land demarcated for construction of a police post and CHPS compound by the Kasena Nankana municipal Assembly.

“We the youth of Doba accord Kandiga Naaba respect due to the skin he occupies  however, it is sad for him to keep meddling in the affairs of Doba under the presence that he is concern with his subjects residing on our land and instead not telling them to respect their land owners who are the Doba. We therefore, appeal to the Regional House of Chiefs to call the Kandiga Naaba to order before the conflict gets worse”. The release read in parts.

It will be recalled that a renewed bloody clash erupted between the people of Doba and Kandiga regarding the naming of a police post and a CHPS compound that ware put up by municipal authorities. The youth of Doba were unhappy that both structures that were sited on Doba land was named after Kandiga.

The youth of Doba in the release noted that the Kandiga people in 1934 came in as settlers and were described as such by the then Kasena/Nankana D.C Capt. Northersill.

The Doba traditional area boycotted the 2012 general elections after the Akurugu-Daboo electoral area was “maliciously” changed to Azaase Atosale electoral area.

The youth noted that although the old aged dispute is yet to be determined in court, they are calling on the state to prefix all government institutions sited on the said land with the name DOBA.

They called on Government to set up a committee of inquiry to look into the impasse for a permanent and peaceful settlement. The said police post and CHPS compound construction should be suspended indefinitely. They added.

They equally demanded on the state that: the Azaase/Atosale and Abempengo Electoral area be prefix with the name Doba and not Kandiga junction.
