Some unspecified number of inmates at various cells at the Accra Regional Police Headquarters, have tested positive to the corona virus.

This development has compelled the management board of the Ghana Police Service to intensify internal measures to reduce the risk of spreading the infection of the corona virus among other inmates.

Among these measures,  is  the  isolation of those who have tested positive and bringing them to the open spaces  .

The Accra  Regional Commander for the Ghana Police Service   ,DCOP Fred Adu Anim, who made the disclosure on Saturday, said prompt measures needed to be taken to forestall any further spread in view of the crowded nature of the cells.

According to him, one other measure  taken was to embark on a massive exercise to clean the  surroundings of the  regional headquarters and to top it up with a disinfection of the cells by waste management experts, Zoomlion Ghana Limited, which has been at the forefront of disinfection of various private and public institutions since the first case of corona virus was recorded in the  country.

The regional commander who did not tell the number of inmates who have tested positive, explained that there is no cause for alarm of any spread since contacts have easily been made and treatment and isolation has rigorously been enforced.

During the Saturday's disinfection  ,all six cells at the regional headquarters were disinfected.

The offices and barracks were not left out. The  zoom optimizer machines  which has the capacity to disinfect wider and far reaching surrounding was used in addition to a gang of sprayers.

The police themselves were at the forefront of the cleanup, which saw to the desilting of the drains and the scrubbing of office windows among others.

The Chief Cooperate Communications Manager for the Jospong Group of Companies, Madam Sophia Lissah, who spoke to the media said waste management and disinfection are areas of specialty for the company.

A request therefore to assist in both regards, are always a  welcome call for the company to show its specialty and at the same time to help the government fight the canker of filth on one side and the disinfection against micro-organisms on another side, she noted.

Aside the disinfection of the Accra Regional Police Headquarters, there were disinfection of all 14 divisional police stations in the Accra region.
