A Human Rights Lawyer and Parliamentary Candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the Madina Constituency, Lawyer Francis Xavier Sosu, has said that he will initiate steps to establish a sustainable educational scholarship for brilliant, but needy students within the Constituency, when he is voted as the next Member of Parliament.
He also indicated that teachers within the La Nkwantanang Municipality, deserve better and that he will also establish a motivational scheme as such the annual teacher's award scheme." I shall introduce a special Annual Teacher's Awards Scheme for teachers within the municipality as well" ~ Lawyer Sosu said
The parliamentary candidates made these remarks on Tuesday November 24,2020, when he donated 1,500 textbooks and other educational materials to some selected schools in the La Nkwantanang Municipality in the Greater Accra Region.
Some of the textbooks, include Mathematics, Science, English among others. According to him, the gesture is to complement the efforts of the teachers to improve teaching and learning within the municipality.
The beneficiary schools, include the Pantang Methodist Basic School, Oyarifa Presby Basic School, Ayi Mensah Basic School, Danfa Methodist Basic School, Madina Fire Amour, and Umar Budu Hatab in Madina West.
Speaking to graphic online on the sideline of the presentation ceremony, he made it categorically clear that education was on top of his list of priorities agenda for the people of Madina constituency and he will not wait to be elected as a Member of Parliament before he will make such intervention hence the gesture. He underscored the importance of education and recounted how education has changed his life "You don't know how education has changed my life from been a street child to a celebrated Human Rights and Public interest Lawyer' he said.
Lawyer Sosu further indicated that the old traditional chalkboard in the schools poses serious health threats to teachers and students particularly those with underlying health conditions like asthma. He assured teachers and pupils that when he is elected as a member of parliament, he will replace all blackboards in public schools with white marker boards and frequently supply the schools with markers for easy teaching and learning to take place.
On her part, The Municipal Director of Education, Madam Angela Nkansah Frempomaa commended Lawyer Sosu for his effort and kind gesture and used the occasion to wish him well in the upcoming elections. She also calls on other benevolent personalities to emulate a good example of lawyer Sosu.
Teachers and pupils of the beneficiary schools expressed their appreciation to Lawyer Sosu for the kind gesture and assured him that the materials shall be put into good use. The pupils also assured him that they will take their studies seriously by learning hard in order to become what he is today. They also wished him well in his aspiration to represent the Constituency in parliament.
