There appears to be more to President Nana Akufo-Addo's letter, ordering Water and Sanitation Minister, Cecilia Dapaah to add the Gender Ministry to her job, until Sarah Adwoa Safo, the special daughter of the Apostle Kwadwo Sarfo of the Christo Asarfo Church, who is the substantive minister, returns to the ministry.

But a showdown has been reported between the National Coordinator of Ghana's School Feeding Programme, Gertrude Quashigah and Gender Minister Sarah Adwoa Safo, has led to a standoff which has resulted in the Gender Minister's subsequent failure to report to work after spending less than five months in office.

Adwoa Safo, 39, who is outside the country, has been seen in different social media videos, either driving in her room happily dancing to soothing music like a teenage girl out and about to impress a lover, and appears not to have any challenges, however, a statement from President Akufo-Addo, said he had extended a leave of absence from office, for the Dome Kwabenya MP.

According to the statement signed by the President's Director of Communication, Eugene Arhin, the minister, had sought leave of office for personal reasons, and was supposed to have returned on August 31, 2021, however, she was unable to resume and requested extension.

But there appears to be more than that. Media reports are that insofar as Mrs. Quashigah remains at the post, indirect slight to the authority of the Gender Minister, Adwoa Safo, who says she cannot work with her, there is not likely to be a substantive Gender Minister, until the issues are solved satisfactorily, sources say.

Adwoa Safo, who is a lawyer, had underestimated the School Feeding boss, Mrs. Quarshigah, who is also the widow of the late Major Courage Quarshigah when she asked the former to leave her post upon her assumption of office as Gender Minister in March, 2021.

The powers behind Mrs. Quarshigah, proved more powerful than Adwoa Safo imagined,, said it learnt from some insiders. Mrs. Quarshigah' was reinstated less than 24 hours after Adwoa Safo sacked her by an official letter dated Tuesday, May 18, 2021, which Adwoa Safo, considered an affront to her authority as a minister.

The first letter which was addressed to Mrs. Quashigah, said "this to inform you of the termination of your appointment as the National Coordinator of the Ghana School Feeding Programme. You will be paid one month's salary in lieu of notice as stipulated in your contract agreement".

The letter further directed Mrs.Quashigah, to hand over to the Chief Director of the Gender Ministry.

No reasons were assigned for her removal at the time, but in a rather dramatic turn, in what insiders revealed was a power struggle between powerful godfathers in the NPP, Mrs. Quashigah triumphed.

The new minister was ordered to reinstate the School Feeding boss immediately or she herself risked her own sack.

Adwoa Safo, authorized a second letter to be written in which she said the first letter sacking Mrs. Quashigah was "an administrative error".

Mrs. Gertrude Quashigah, was officially named national coordinator of the programme in March 2020, after taking over from Dr Kwame Adu-Nsiah, who was also fired as reported at the time.

MCE wahala was told Adwoa Safo's wahala is far from over as her choice of Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Ga East Municipal which covers her constituency is being hounded out even before she took office.

President Nana Akufo-Addo, nominated Adwoa Safo's girl as Municipal Chief Executive Officer for the Ga East Municipal Assembly, Elizabeth Kaakie Mann. But her confirmation is pending over claims she did not obtain a degree from the University of Professional Studies (UPSA) as she wrote on her CV.

Adwoa Safo, who is on leave is believed to hold the view that Kaakie Mann is being hounded because of her, Adwoa Safo.

Reports say Elizabeth Kaakie Mann's name is not on that list of UPSA graduates for the year in question.

Further checks from the Academic Affairs Directorate of UPSA by those interested, revealed that Elizabeth Kaakie Mann, was never a student of UPSA at any point in time between 2009 and 2012.

Others yet still say Adwoa Safo, rather preferred the outgone MCE who was not renominated.

In a statement dated Wednesday, October 6, 2021, signed and issued by the Director of Communications at the Presidency, explained that Ms Safo's leave was to have ended on September 30, 2021. Ms. Safo had sought a leave of absence for personal reasons.

In her absence and until further notice, President Akufo-Addo has directed the Minister for Sanitation, Cecilia Abena Dapaah to act as caretaker Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection," the statement added.

While on leave, Ms Adwoa Safo has been sharing some videos of her on Tiktok in the last one week.

Interestingly, Gertrude Quashigah, has publicly disclosed that unlike her predecessors, she does not share a strong bond with Sarah Adwoa Safo,

Gertrude Quashigah revealed on Metro TV's Good Evening Ghana programme that she had a mutually respectful and warm relationship with former ministers Otiko Djaba and Cynthia Morrision, but the same cannot be said of the current minister.

Quizzed by the host Paul Adom-Otchere on her relations with Adwoa Safo, the wife of the former Health Minister said "there should be a good relationship between me and the minister."

Paul Adom-Otchere probed further and she answered "I had a good relationship with Cynthia Morrison and Otiko Djaba. The Ministry has seen three ministers."

She revealed that she is yet to meet AdwoSafo since she was appointed by President Akufo-Addo.

Gertrude Quashigah, said efforts have been made from her side to hold talks with the ministry under which her directorate operates, but has been unsuccessful so far.

She cited an incident where she spent more than six hours at the Gender Ministry, but never had the chance to meet Adwoa Safo.

"We've not met since she came. I have tried severally and written letters to meet her and brief her on the program and also to chat with her because I should be doing that. I report to her every quarter. She made the attempt that we should meet but I went there and sat there from 1 o'clock to almost 7 pm but she never turned up.

"Asked by Adom-Otchere if she is nursing any ministerial ambitions, Gertrude Quashigah said "we are moving forward."

Gertrude Quashigah, who is the wife of late former minister Major (rtd) Courage Quashigah is rumored not to be in the good books of AdwoaSafo.

It will be recalled that she was dismissed by the Gender Ministry only to be reinstated after a reported intervention from key government officials.
