The President of the Republic of Ghana has not answered positively how he financed his various and indeed many campaigns before ascending unto the highest office in the land.
This should not be the issue this paper ought to raise when it comes to Bishop Dr. Charles Agyin Asare's right to conscience, speech and expressing of same. Let those who think they have the right to answer questions for the President know that there are questions only the President must answer and no amount of blackmail can do any good for the first gentleman of the land on the issues raised by the Bishop. It is accountability time. The President must answer.
The question is how come Prudential Bank is operating and yet GN Bank (GN Savings) and some two others have been wiped off the banking industry? That is the question.
By the directive principles of state policy, the sovereign people of Ghana anchored our economic objectives in the manner infra: that the State must take all necessary action to ensure that the national economy is managed in such a manner as to maximize the rate of economic development and to secure the maximum welfare, freedom and happiness of every person in Ghana and to provide the adequate means of livelihood and suitable employment and public assistance to the needy.
In the face of banking and financial crises in this Republic, the President saved his friends and death his others. The President took every necessary step to ensure economic development of his own and secure their maximum welfare and happiness so they remain in business and prosper in the land. So Prudential Bank today still operates comfortably. But Kwesi Nduom's financial machine â GN Bank and or GN Savings with her nation-wide presence turns scar-crow. The question still remains unanswered how come Prudential Bank still operates but GN-Bank for example is out of business?
Financial crisis is a piece of history that shall repeat herself. It does occur in every serious economic block of a nation. It does not happen in banking and financial sector alone. So in the year 2009, President Obama caused the United States Government to invest USD50 Billion into the Detroit -based automaker, the General Motors, GM. GM was saved with its huge presence in the US economy, employing host of others. There are many other examples around the world and even in our own country. The President did not do that for GN Bank. The President did that for his friends.
In Ghana, under this President's watch, in the year 2018 alone, Ghana Government irregular tax waivers and related sums, stood at GHS4 Billion, according to the Auditor General's Report, 2019. We know who the beneficiaries for this fraudulent tax waivers are. So even the Government goes irregular to help her own. This is what the Bishop is dealing with, the Government was in the position to have secured GN Bank and some others to progress and prosper in the land if the President was minded to do so. The President did not because Kwesi Nduom was not his friend but his other. The pain is that by looking at tax waivers alone in this country, foreigners and their Ghanaian agents are leading in favours.
Foreign companies are prospering in the land whilst many indigenous companies struggle. These companies have their own problems. The domestic companies have their problems too. And President has his problems like unable to inform the nation how he financed his campaigns over the years. But we are all here with our problems. It cannot be that the most potent weapon of the state has to be employed against the welfare of the sovereign people of Ghana. The entire episodes of governance in our own country is like a scene of the People versus the State. Let us be careful when we have some power to do things. We are writing our own story, someday it would be read back to us. Bishop Agyin Asare is right. We are guided, Mr. President, you may proceed to answer the question, when will you create another Kwesi Nduom and the inspiration he offered the Nation?
