A group of Journalists under the umbrella name Journalists for Peace and Security, is calling on the Ghana Police service, not to treat as lightly the threat of beating by Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Mr .KennedyA gyapong on Kumasi- based Journalist, Erastus Asare Donkor.
The offence by the Journalist according to the law maker is the extensive coverage he gave on the Ejura shooting incident, which led to the killings of some innocent Ghanaians and injuring of same.
Justifying their call, the group with the code name' JNeps' is drawing the attention of the Police to a similar threat made by the same MP which eventually exposed Ahmed Soale of the Tiger P.I investigative team member for assassination.
The group , which has since condemned the utterances which the MP made on his television show 'Net 2' is demanding an urgent probe into his conduct by the Police and Parliament.
Parliament has since refereed the Assin Central MP to the Privileges Committee Of Parliament to look into the matter.
In a statement signed by the acting director of Communication of the Group, Zainab Alhassan, noted that law enforcements should do well to protect the life of the Journalist and his family .
The group also urged all Journalists to be united in condemning the utterances of the law maker and that of all forms of attacks on media freedom , stressing that it is not a crime to practice as a Journalist in Ghana.
"These horrendous attacks from a law maker who doubles as the Chairman of the Defense and Interior committee of Parliament should not be taken lightly, especially due to the recent killing of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale of Tiger P.I after threats were made on his life by the same law maker" , the statement stressed.
