Ghana Black Stars, after an impressive performance against Zambia on Friday to be just two games away from the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil crushed to a humiliating defeat against Japan in a friendly at the Yokohama stadium on Tuesday.
The game did not feature a section of the renowned members of the Black Stars squad including captain Asamoah Gyan, Michael Essien and fellow returnee Andre Ayew who all participated in the game against Zambia.
Ghana drew first blood through Franck Acheampong in the first half but second half goals from Shinji Kagawa, Yasuhito Endo and Keisuke Honda gave Japan the win on home grounds.
Kwesi Appiah coach of the Ghana Black Stars said after the game:
“I was very positively impressed by the performance of my players, they all did well. To build a team it is important to play against top teams like Japan.
“At this level when you lose concentration, you pay a price for it and that is what happened in the game. Performance-wise it was a good game for us.
On Japan’s performance and particularly Manchester United’s Shinji Kagawa, Appiah continued:
“I believe that Japan is a very good team, all of their players are very good. I don’t think it’s fair to talk about a single player, but Shinji Kagawa is a very good player, everybody knows that.”
